Veil of Illusion

xx041_Veil_of_Illusion_Tullio_2009
Awareness is at once whole and direct. We see, hear, smell, feel, and taste the world each moment. Our consciousness coordinates inner and outer experience from the depths of our being to the ends of the universe. The acts of thinking and speaking about awareness, however, are indirect and require experience to be atomized, compartmentalized – rendered into discrete components by means of language.

In the realm of awareness, there is no doubt, only direct knowledge. In the realm of thought, logic, and language, there is no certainty and limited understanding. We are continually brought up short not by the world and our experience of it, but by our inappropriate means of explaining it to ourselves.

This is our first and persistent mistake. The means by which we come to understand the world is not the way in which the world appears to us. Piece by piece, we spend our time disassembling what is the single unified field of experience into separate segments – words and concepts composed of words. In the end, systems we construct from these components fail us – fail to adequately explain our experience and fail to provide us any deep understanding of our predicament.

It is better to know this than not, as it is better to know that it is our instrument which is flawed and not ourselves or our universe.

The New Universe 2010: Part Three

xx041_The_New_Universe_Part_Three

The first April of the decade is sufficiently gentle to sustain delicate sprouts and shoots with atypical kindness. In this way, nature instructs us to be more kind.
A garden path leads toward a grey stone bench in a corner of my dream. The pale greens of early spring cling to willing surfaces for support. A slim pine shelters soft ferns among exposed roots.
The moist ground at my feet is what remains of the rains of the past week. They fell softly, as if inspired to entrance our waking valley. In the pond below my bench, rippled water shines before me. A young green frog drops beneath the surface. I close my eyes and take a breath.
A billion photons, just eight minutes from the sun, collide on the surface of my skin. A hundred thousand years before their emergence they began the journey, swelling up from within the cyclonic solar center. And Sol itself was born billions of years before that from the remnants of a collapsing spiral of ancient stardust. Ever backward through cosmic time, the far-flung connectivity of matter and energy are rooted in the original instant.
And here on the receiving end of a constant flow of electromagnetic vibration, my mind is impelled to move with the speed of thought. I conceive the notion that the final flourish of cosmic evolution is right here within my eyes. The tips of my fingers are the warm edge of the Big Bang and my thoughts flow forth at the perimeter of the first moment of continuous creation.

The New Universe 2010: Part Two

xx40_NEW_UNIVERSE_2010_PART2_Tullio_2009

We all share in the existential predicament. This is our solitude. And paradoxically, in this solitude we discover connectedness. For in the depth of our being, we are far more similar than we appear in the outermost reaches of external reality.

Our collaborations are spawned from this awareness of unity. It is discovered within each of us and it is the basis for a new unification of purpose. Because this unified awareness happens in time through a process of unfolding realization, it is progressive and evolutionary.

In the emptiness of mind we discover a vast oceanic consciousness within, which is continuous and contiguous with the infinite and eternal universe of space, time, energy, dimension, and potential. We are empowered by this knowledge and transformed by the experience.

Now in the dawn of a new decade, we look into the mirror of our dreams and see… each other. Unconsciously at first, we are drawn together by inexplicable forces – revulsion for the excesses of blind materialism, mindless violence, the destruction of nature by technology, mass-produced ignorance, meaningless social roles, and the vapidity of culturally produced content. These aspects of our shared experience prod us to search within ourselves for a source of meaning and value to serve as a refuge from the monstrous remnants of the twentieth century.

We meet daily and instantaneously within the global web of interconnected cybernetic communication. There is never- and will never be – a microsecond in which the network is silent. This invisible electronic domain is where our dreams go to spawn. And it is the place to which we return to reconnect with our ongoing plan to be together here, now, and forever. Together within a multidimensional unified-mind field, with each interaction we create a new vision, a new future, and a new universe.

The New Universe 2010: Part One

xx39a_New_Universe_2010_Tullio_ARTology

Time shifts. The surprising spring of 2010 has arrived. The new decade, as reckoned by the fictional clocks and calendars of our consensual world, has produced a spring of astounding clarity.

Now it is clear we also have been transformed. Like a young fox in underbrush, the newly raised consciousness of the entire human race emerged at once without notice. And yesterday – March 20, 2010 – was the day it was first recognized.

Now it is plain to see. Slowly, yet inexorably, the signs of this epochal transformation were welling up all winter. The occasional knowing smiles and bright-eyed glances between friends and colleagues occurred so spontaneously at first that no one could suspect something was up. But something was up. And now, some of us…some of us – we know it!

Some of us… all it takes to join together in creating this utterly wonderful experience. And simply knowing this is what we are doing makes all the difference.

At first, the collaborative spirit spread like a vernal breeze stirring up the leftover leaves of fall- a few seemingly random gyres spinning out here in the chilly countryside or some quirky centripetal vortices happening all at once in the cold cities – people working together to fulfill …their dreams.

And now, in the flourishing of the new year and the new decade, we are caught up in the full velocity of a whirlwind of astonishing force. After so long a barren time, people have a new idea. I can see this in evidence everywhere. I see it in the faces of my students, who are pooling resources and creating brilliant new concepts, experiences, and entities in new media. My friends, my colleagues, those I love – we are all engaged in wonderful collaborative projects.

This paradigm is so new, so fresh, and so unheard of, that as yet, it has no name. It is the clarion call of a new decade and it is a distillation of everything good within us yearning to be free.

In the coming days, weeks, and months, I will say more about all this and the new spirit of collaboration but for now, it’s enough to just look around. It is the spring of 2010 and it’s another absolutely beautiful day…
